We are fortunate to work with many wonderful potters and their families. All of the Nicaraguan pottery is made using a manual "kick" wheel to throw the desired shape and finished using natural mineral oxides. Please visit our Artisan page to learn more about the very complex and time consuming methods used to create these beautiful pieces. The quality is even more amazing given the rudamentary tools and resources used to make them.
Our pottery is purchased direct from the individual artisans or their respective coopertives. Following the principle of fair trade, we insure that every artisan receives a living wage for their work, and the financial support and guidance necessary to produce the quality pieces you expect. This helps provide a sustainable and stable market for their products, and gives you the assurance that the pieces you buy meet the quality standards your customers expect with the social consiousness they desire.
All of our pottery is for decorative use only and not recommended to hold water. This is due to the low tempeture firing process from the simple, natural fuels used in the simple brick and mud kilns. |
